Updating Date Values in SQL Server

I'm using jqGrid 4.5.2. I've successfully created northwind database in SQL Server 2008R2. I have successfully connected jqgrid to the database and I can update data in all fields from jqGrid except for Date field. I have set the "ReturnDatesAsStrings" on the Connection array.

No matter what date I enter, the date in the database changes to 1970-01-01.

What other changes to the \examples\editing_data\datepicker\grid.php do I need to make in order for date values to work correctly with SQL Server?

my problem was I needed to add this line;

$grid->setUserTime('Y-m-d');
