jQuery Grid Plugin - jqGrid

I have a columnm defined like this:

 { name: 'driver', editable: true, edittype: 'select', editoptions: { dataUrl: driversListUrl } }

driversListUrl returns the following:

<select>

<select id="drivers" name="drivers">
<option value="">-Select Driver-</option>
<option value="31548">Adam Adams</option>
<option value="31544">Sam Smith</option>
</select>

Then I use the following method to get the data from the changed Cells like this

var data = $("#grid").jqGrid('getChangedCells', 'all');

data contians an the driver seleted (i.e. "Sam Smith")  but I need the value "31544" insetad.  

Is there any way to save the value of the selected item on a grid row?
