Hello Tony,

there are regularly questions about wrong looking of jqGrid (mostly wrong fonts) where the reason is no existence of any <!DOCTYPE html ...>.

What do you think about included alert with the corresponding error message (like in case of usage <div> instead of <table>)? One can for example test document.documentMode. If it has the value 5 or less one can show alert and finish creating of jqGrid. It can help support of jqGrid.

Best regards
Oleg

Hello Oleg,

Not a bad idea.

For professional UI suites for Java Script and PHP visit us at our commercial products site - guriddo.net - by the very same guys that created jqGrid.

I can understand the reason for adding this check, however for those of us wanting to use the grid in environments where we can't not use the quirks mode can this be parameterised please. Even if it was a default value of true so that the current behaviour is retained that would be appreciated.

Regards,

Chris
