I've gone over doing this with the current code, both on here and on my own and it doesn't look doable without code changes to jqGrid.

There are a few approaches one could take:

1. Add an event that happens after the editing form element is in place on the page therefore allowing you to overwrite it (hacky in my opinion)

2. Add an html type to the code along with text, select, etc..  I've found the three places in the code I'd have to make changes.  The problem here is that I'd have to code in a particular HTML editor.. maybe I could make it configurable, but that'd be almost as hard as the next option.

3. Add an extension mechanism that allows you to make custom editor types for cell/row editing.  Like a registration scheme with a few functions or maybe an object to represent the editor types you want to add.  In that way you could add any gee whiz javascripty flashy editor you want.

Another decision/Question is should I try to make this public?  Is there a contribution mechanism?  Are people interested in seeing this?  And finally is this already planned or seen as really wrong to the developer(s) that be?

Yes, I would find this very useful. I have several grids now where I cannot use jqGrid's edit form because I am using fckEditor to provide html editing features. If I could run this in a jqGrid form, I would be in heaven (or close, anyway)

So I hope you are able to make it work, and I hope you can find a way to use fckEditor (because that means more consistency with these pages and others I have which are too complex to be done in jqGrid)

Thanks

Hello,

The contribution can be done diffrent ways.

There is a GitHub, where you can put your code. If this is difficult to you you can send me the code.

I will think how to make custom editor (edit type), but it will be better if you have allready the code and want to publish it.

Thanks

Best Regards

Tony
