Title says it all.
The grid's mtype is POST, but searchoptions dataUrl is doing GET. Why? This causes rewrite of server-side code and unable to reuse existing codes returning lookup lists.
Do we setup searchoptions incorrectly? (see below)

Hello Trober,
it is not a bug. You should use ajaxSelectOptions option of jqGrid to overwrite any of ajax parameters of ajax requests used (together with dataUrl) for 'select' datatype.
Try to define
ajaxSelectOptions: {type: "POST"}
as an additional option of jqGrid and I hope you receive the behavior of jqGrid searching which you need.
