I’m almost ready to buy a license for your plugin. I am building mostly custom back-end php/mysql applications and have been looking for an ajax grid. I’ve also been using Jquery UI and other plugins to enhance the user interfaces. But I like the look of your grid and the crud functionality. I do have a few questions:

  1. I would like to build interfaces with the jquery layout plugin (http://layout.jquery-dev.net/index.cfm) . Is there any reason jqgrid would not work in one or more panes in a jquery layout? I’m sure you can see the value in doing so. To my mind, if I can use your grid plugin along with the layout (and other plugins, of course) the possibilities for very functional admin consoles are very good.
  2. Can the custom footers include min, max, avg as well as sum calculations? Are there examples of such?
  3. Is the forum on your site the main support portal or is there another portal or means of support for licensed users? Please explain how the support works for the developer license.
  4. If I buy a developers license for $299 and need to upgrade to the subscription version is there an upgrade path? Can I just pay the difference or will I need a new license.
  5. Can I build custom forms with the edit functionality? For example, I’d like the grid to display only 4 columns of a table with 25 columns, but the edit form needs to contain all 25 fileds.
  6. Can I include dynamically populated drop downs in the forms? For example, a drop down populated with values from a table?

Thanks in advance for the great plugin and any help. I was looking at Extjs, but I’m already somewhat familiar with jquery. If this would work for me I’d have no need for Extjs! I’m looking to buy in the next week or so if I can get this sorted out. I have several projects ready to start.

Hi Tony,

Yes, you did and I'm very impressed with both the Grid and your staff's response to my questions. Unfortunately, the emial response went into my junk mail forlder and I missed it fop a few days.

For the record, the response was very quick and more than thorough. I plan to buy a license this week and am really looking forward to working with this plugin.

You can feel free to delete or move this post, unless you feel users would benefit from the answers provided by Rumen, which sold me! The response is provided below for whoiever may be interested in these questions:

Thanks for your interest in jqGrid and for dropping us a line.

1. Yes, we and our customers have used the grid control extensively with jQuery UI (and other third party jQuery widgets) with great success. As far as the "layout" control is concerned, we are actually using it in some of our examples:

http://trirand.com/blog/jqgrid..... (the two panes - west and east, are inside layout)

and here we are using jQuery UI tabs and accordion in the same page is the grid.

3. Currently we provide forum and email support. We prefer forum (unless you do not want to post publicly), because community can help, Google indexes the topics and they can be search and help customers, etc. Of course, email support is provided as well. Soon we will be launching private ticket based support system as well.

Support is one of our strongest points - since we have decided from the very beginning that core team members (the guys who created the controls) will answer to developers. We want to make this a top feature of our services.

4. Yes, we have not stated this in our licensing page, but you can always upgrade (for the difference of $150) at a later point - just send us an email and we will provide you with a custom payment link for that.

5. Yes, we have a "custom" edit field functionality, where you can write some javascript and construct additional fields. I can suggest posting this question in our forums and our PHP team will answer with details and code samples there.

6. Yes, this is supported and actually we have an example for that:

/phpjqgrid/examples/editing_data/edit_types/default.php

(code details in the PHP code tab below the example)

Should you have any additional questions, just let us know.

Kind Regards,

Rumen Stankov
