Using a formatter on an empty cell

I'm using the grid with this jsonReader:{cell:"",id:0,repeatitems:false} so I can send it data with some fields missing.

I want to use a custom formatter to fill in one of these empty fields with a value calculated from the id. The problem is cellvalue, options and rowObject passed to the formatter function are all undefined. Is there any way round this?

.... please ignore the above. The problem was with my formatter function
