I hope I am missing something fundamental, but I am currently at a loss.
I want to have a subgrid of data, as is in the examples - really like that functionality. I'm worried it only works with XML as everything returns JSON and all is well.
Here is my configuration code - again, hoping I made some silly mistake. Many thanks for the help!
return $('#view-dates-grid').jqGrid({
gridview: true,
autowidth:true,
pager: '#view-dates-pager',
colNames: ['Id', 'From', 'Until', 'Locations'],
colModel: [
{ name: 'id', index: 'id' },
{ name: 'StartDate', index: 'StartDate'},
{ name: 'EndDate', index: 'EndDate'},
{ name: 'Locations', index: 'Locations'}
],
sortname: 'StartDate',
rowNum: 20,
rowList: [20,50,100,500],
sortorder: 'asc',
height: 160,
datatype: 'json',
caption: 'Event Dates and Locations',
viewrecords: false,
mtype: 'POST',
subGrid : true,
subGridUrl: 'subgrid.php?q=2',
subGridModel: [
{ name : ['No','Item','Qty','Unit','Line Total'],
width : [55,200,80,80,80] }
],
jsonReader: {
root: 'rows',
page: 'page',
total: 'total',
records: 'records',
repeatitems: false,
userdata: 'userdata',
},
url: tc.rootUrl + '/JsonEventDates',
postData: {eventId: eventId},
});
}

Hello,
The "fundamental" thing is to set
gridview : false
