script expired?

Hi, I was using jqgrid, and everything was fine until last week, when suddenly the grid disappeared and was replaced with the text "script expired".  I checked the website and noticed that jqgrid has been updated.  So I redownloaded the php version and everything works fine now.

However, the question I have is how is it determining that the scirpt has expired? Is this baby calling home everyonce in a while?  And will this continuously happen in the future when updates happen?
