I have a grid where I need to draw emphasis (different background color, etc.) to certain rows based on conditions. Is this possible with jqGrid?

Yes, in the documentation look for altRows and altClass: under Documentation -- Basic Grid -- Options

Got stripes now, e.g.

.ui-priority-secondary td

background-color: #EEEEEE
}

...

altRows:true

But now the row hover doesn't work on those secondary alt rows. What am I doing wrong?

I can see this post, but doesn't seem to help, alt rows still show no hover effect.
