Require a field editable in Add but not Edit

I have some fields that are allowed to be entered by the user when creating a new object but not when editing an existing object. Is there anyway I can set an option on the grid model to do that?

Hello,

There are a lot of exmples here in this forum.

You will neeed to use beforeShowForm form event for this purpose.

I've been googling around for an hour and still haven't managed to get beforeShowForm working.

I found this example on StackOverflow but it's not working for me, what am I missing?

function initGrid() {

      jQuery("#myGrid").jqGrid('navGrid','#myGrid-pager',
                { }, //options
                { // edit options
                    beforeShowForm: function(frm) {
                        alert("beforeShowForm edit");
                    }
                },
                { // add options
                    beforeShowForm: function(frm) {
                        alert("beforeShowForm add");
                    }
                },
                { }, // del options
                { } // search options
            );

}
