1. Is this limited to xml or can I use 'json' data?

2. Am using the demo as a guide and I am getting an error in Firefox. It says there is an illegal character in

$("#"+subgrid_id).html("<table id='"+subgrid_table_id+"' class='scroll'></table><div id='"+pager_id+"' class='scroll'></div>");

Any suggestions?

I'm a relative begginer with jqGrid myself so digest this with that in mind.

I'm assuming the forum software converted your < and > to < and > if not, that's a problem. You need to use the actual characters, not the encoding.

Also, I don't think you want class="style" in the pager div.

Well, mine didn't get converted so that is definitely a problem. Change all < to < and all > to >
