Override Parameter Defaults at Runtime

I have a number of jqgrids on a single page that I want to behave in the same way, with settings like: closeAfterEdit: true, closeOnEscape: true, savekey: [true,13], and then even more.

Rather then having to explicitly set these for every grid, is there way, for example, to tell jqgrid to make closeAfterEdit: true for all new grids?

I know I could edit the source or fake something up with .extend, but it seems like there should be way to change defaults via the API.

In any case, thank you very much for such a powerful tool.
