Multiselect highlighting rows, but not checking the checkboxes

I have a jqGrid that we are using to list out a dataset and then allow users to multi-select individual records or all records (using the 'select all' box in the header) and they can individually select records with no troubles at all.  The issue happens when they click the 'select all' box in the header.  All of the rows are highlighted as if they have been selected, but the checkbox remains unchecked for some of the records.  In the code all of the check boxes are maked as 'ON', but the check mark is not selected.  If a user assumes it is not selected and clicks the checkbox to place the check mark there the record now becomes 'OFF' and it is removed from the selected values.

I am having trouble trying to debug why this is happening.  Are there settings that control this that I am missing?  Anyone else come across this issue in the past?  I have not located this issue in the forums.

Thanks all.

No one else has run into this situation before?  It is very odd that it is happening.  All of the checkboxes have unique ids according to the rendered code, but for some reason the checkbox is not populating with a checkmark even though the element is marked as "Checked".

I would love to hear from anyone that has encoutered this issue or might know why this is happening and maybe a way to correct it.

Thanks a ton.

I found some special characters in the values used in the IDs that were causing parts of the values to be ignored.  The remaining parts of the Id were similar and therefore no longer unique.  A replace function in my SQL Query got rid of all special characters and now everything is being selected and checkmarks are being placed in the boxes.
