you can use this option grid definition

onSelectRow: function (id) {
alert( id);
},

this will fire when ever you click on any row.

Columns has no ids in the grid. There are only id of the column header which will be constructed as grid_id + '_' + columnName.

You should clear what you want to do with the "column id". Probably the information what you need you will can to get in another way.

The onCellSelect is what is needed:

$("#grid").jqGrid({

....

onCellSelect: function( rowId, iCol, content, event) {

alert ("You clicked: " + iCol + " column index");

}

});
