How to handle server side validation in jQgrid

Tony,

I have a jqQgrid with "code" field. I want to handle this error( 'Internal server error:500') during the addition of same code,which is already exists in the database.

Also during edit,the "code" field should remain disabled or it should be hidden so that it can't be edited.

I also have an query, Is there any client side validation of the fields in drop down list in jqgrid??

Plz help me out of this........
