jQuery Grid Plugin - jqGrid

Solved: turns out, since the grid is instantiated and loaded after page load, no jqGrid event handlers work. Just had to built my own hover listeners and that worked.

I load the jQuery UI CSS and the CSS for jqGrid, and my grid renders all OK… but there is nothing for highlighted rows or table stripes. I am not sure what the problem is… but I suspect it might be something Javascript… with my inspector on, I see classes of ui-state-hover being toggled on rows with the examples.. but in my grids, no such class action is taking place? Why would my grids not be toggled those classes on rows? 

hoverrows: true is set for my grids. 

Any tips most appreciated…
