Dialog problem in IE8

Hi,

I've got a really strange problem that has had me struggling for a couple of days and maybe it's now the case that I'm blind to something obvious and fresh eyes would see the issue immediately.

Background note:

I have a working site that doesn't show the problem and am working on a new version which now suddenly does. Both sites don't have a DocType - before that is pointed out as a possibility - as I have issues with various other plugins not working together properly when a DocType (any it appears) is declared. That my Live site doesn't demostrate the problem I have I hoping that there is something else that is causing it.

The Problem:

Select a record and hit the View Record button (in the Toolbar). In FF everything is fine - the dialog appears over the grid. In IE8 however the dialog appears in the same place but on a grey background with all the previous content pushed right down the page (scroll to see it). I've tried searching around but am I bit stuck on what search terms to use as I know really know how to describe what is going on.

I also appreciate that I have no additional styles included beyond those of jqgrid and jquery-ui. I have looked at the css for my Live site and couldn't see anything obvious so I stripped the example down to the bear minimum in the hope that by doing so I would solve the problem myself - but to no avail.

The original version I began with, which does have additional css and well as a complex layout using nested UI-Layouts, an Accordion and multiple tabs can be seen at

http://www.thekmz.co.uk/GEPlug....._test1.htm

As I say I've now stripped it right down to the bones but the problem is still there in IE8. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated to put me out of my misery.

Kindest regards

Nymor

ps. Using version 3.5 as I haven't yet had the time to upgrade - I did a quick test of my full site on 3.6.4 but got some errors so need to work through those at some stage.

Hello Nymor,

The problem is exactley as described from you - Missing the doctype in IE causes the jqModal to do this.

Two possible solutions

1. Put doctype

2. Instruct jqGrid not to use jqModal - in this case when you lunch the dialog only the grid will be disabled.

This should be done in the view/add/edit options - just set

jqModal : false.

Best Regards

Tony
