jQuery Grid Plugin - jqGrid

I have two fields, both with dataEvents and the change event defined. If I use the first one the second one will never fire off, if i use the second one the first one never fires off.

They both are defined like this:

dataEvents :[
      { type: 'change', fn: function(e) {
       var thisval = $(e.target).val();

Am I running into a naming issue? Should they have seperate names or be identified seperatly?
