Customizing search parameters for filterToolbar?

Hi,
I was wondering if there is a way to customize the search parameters for filterToolbar:
right now, the URL calls are of the form _search=true&name=value where name is the name corresponding to the column and the value is the value entered in the search. Is there a way to change the name part to be something customized?
