Hello,
Currently not possible, but you can use searchFilter as separate plugin, where you define your own model and apply it to the grid.

thanks for the reply. the thing that i need to know now is how do i post the filters to my server do i use search()?
what if i want to use the search filter for some other application like a filter for a report
how do i get the filters or at least get values of the filter to a variable without opening the form?

There is a documentation in the jquery.searchFilter.js (provided with the jqGrid download) file how to use separatley.
