I've seen other items, certainly jQuery's own Ajax call that has stuff like this:
jQuery("#list3").jqGrid({
url: '/index.cfm?event=remote.getLenderNamesByUserJQGrid'
, datatype: "json"
, params: [thisVar: 'test1'
, thatVar: 'test2']
, mtype: "post"
, loadComplete: jqOnLoadComplete
, colNames: ['Lender ID','Lender Name']
Is there anything like this in jqGrid?

Well....I've answered my own question. Sorry for the post, the docs seem a bit scattered at times with the examples, etc.
postData (array)
This array is passed directly to the url. This is associative array and can be used this way: {name1:value1…}. See API methods for manipulation.
