How to add a blank row to data grid for editing?

This sounds quite a simple/obvious requirement but at the moment I can't see how to do it.

If I have an editable data grid loaded with data from a database what's the easiest way to provide a blank row at the bottom which, when filled with new data, will be sent to add the new row of data to the database?
