Hallo Tony,
jqGrid generates ids of rows if id values are not defined in the input data. The problem is that it will be done not everywhere. In case of local datatype the rowid will be generated in the code of addJSONData (or addXmlData), but the parameter _index will contain only undefined property.
One should change the lines of refreshIndex function and include additional code which corresponds the code from addJSONData. In the most cases it would be enough to add just the line between which set val if it is undefined.
if (val === undefined) { val=String(i+1); }
ts.p._index[val] = i;
