Believe me I have been all over the docs.  I just didn't think to look in the header "JQuery UI Integrations" on the main documentation page (makes sense now that I remember reading it used features of the JQuery UI).  The sub items under that heading are not very informative.  I think it doing what you did with the "User Modules" header where you list the common features like "Table to jqGrid" would probably help other people like me find this information easier.  Also, I am guessing that the search box on the left side of the docmentation screens doesn't work for things like "sortableRows".  Just my two cents.. thanks for for the link and all your efforts.

The feature is not implemeted in tree grid.

I am trying to use the sortableRows with a treeGrid and I can't seem to get anything to happen.  I am not sure if I have all the 

dependencies for the sortableRows feature so that could be an issue as well.  I have these js files included..

jquery-1.4.1.min.js

jquery-ui-1.7.2.custom.min.js (should be all ui modules)

jquery.jqGrid.min.js (ver 3.6.4 )

grid.locale-en.js

Has anyone done this combo?
