I really could use some help with this.  I am just not sure how to use the .getGridParam(”searchdata”) that you told me to use.  I can not figure out how to pull the searchdata out of the array that is return from .getGridParam(”searchdata”).  I am VERY new to jQuery so I am having a difficult time.  Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry I think you mis understood me.  What I was trying to say is this...

var searchData = $("#list").getGridParam("searchdata");

So I have my searchData but if I wanna get the elements of the searchData array I need to know the element names.  For example.  searchData["searchField"] to get what the searchField is. Except I tried  searchData["searchField"] and  searchData["searchfield"] and  searchData["sField"] none of them return data. Just an "undefined".  So how do I pull the data out of that?

Your problem is not connected with jqGrid.

I am still a little confused on how to use the searchdata.  I am not sure what the index names are for it.  So I get this searchdata object and I do not know how to pull the data out of it.

Search data is a part of grid parameters.

try getGridParam('searchdata') - it will give you the needed.

I was wondering how to save the search preferences.  I know how to save the grid parameters.  But beacause the search preferences are added to the URL I am not sure how to save the search data.
