I'm loading jqGrid with information that contains a lot of columns. There's usually around 50 or so rows, but there can be 40 to 80 columns for each of those rows.

I find that everything seems to work fine in Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and Opera. In IE 7 & 8 however the grid is very sluggish. It loads at an acceptable speed, but manipulating cells and sorting columns can be very slow.

Has anyone had a similar issue that may be able to give me some tips on how to improve responsiveness?
