IMHO your problem is in the response. Maybe you missed some tags like page, total and etc.

i get an exception "'$.jgrid.formatter.integer' is null or not an object" from updatepager in grid.base.js while the grid is processing the pagination data.  am i missing a file that has the integer formatter defined?  i'm on jquery-1.4.2 and jquery.jqGrid-3.6.4.  thanks in advance for any help.
