However, the type of filter my client wants is the equivalent of a LIKE in SQL. I know that I can provide one 'sopt' option for each column and it will be used in the filter toolbar. The contains is almost exactly what I need. However, my client wants records that partially match the keyword provided to show up in the filtered results. 

Is there anyway to extend jqGrid to add a the 'like' functionality that I am looking for? How would I go about extending jqGrid.
