Do you mean when we use local data? If we use server side sorting you server should care about this. If you use local data maybe you need to check the option sorttype in the docs.

You can use onSortCol even to meet your needs.

Should not it be better as an colModel property?

Is it any way to define the initial sortorder column per column?
