        	        	<description><![CDATA[<p>I can understand the reason for adding this check, however for those of us wanting to use the grid in environments where we can&#39;t not use the quirks mode can this be parameterised please. Even if it was a default value of true so that the current behaviour is retained that would be appreciated.</p>

<p>there are regularly questions about wrong looking of jqGrid (mostly wrong fonts) where the reason is no existence of any &#60;!DOCTYPE html ...&#62;.</p>
<p>What do you think about included <strong>alert</strong> with the corresponding error message (like in case of usage &#60;div&#62; instead of &#60;table&#62;)? One can for example test <strong>document.documentMode</strong>. If it has the value 5 or less one can show <strong>alert</strong>&#160;and finish creating of jqGrid. It can help support of jqGrid.</p>
