This is a small addition I made to jqGrid to satisfy my own needs; posting it here in case anyone else wants it.

The included patch to jqgrid.base.js will add a new property, 'timeout', to the grid, and pass this value on as a property to the ajax requests in populate().  The default timeout is 30000 (30 seconds).  When an ajax request times out, the loadError() event is fired.
