I have read the document and I did this test.

If I use the for example in colModel: 'ID',index:'name', width:70, align:'left', formatter:'select', editable: true, edittype: 'select', editoptions:{value:"2009/2010:One;2:Two"}I have not problem.

But if I replace the editoptions:{value:"2009/2010:One;2:Two"}  with editoptions: { dataUrl: '/select.php'} I have not js error but the cell of grid remains blank. 

In the edit form I have not problem.

The output format of select.php is : <select><option value='2'> Two </option></select>, the jqgrid version is 3.6.1.
