It seems to me you are not read the newest blog post regarding 4.4.4 release. The 4.4.3 jqGrid is not compatible with jQuery 1.9.X.

its because jquery 1.9 treats strings as selectors now http://stage.jquery.com/upgrad.....ctorstring, trirand will need to release a new version of jqgrid to match jquery 1.9
