It is something difficult to answer on your question because you don't post the code. The afterSubmit is nice if you want to change something in the server response before the data will be added to the grid. On the other side from the same reason the function is not a good place for the row selection.

I would you recommend to use afterComplete instead.

we know why, jqgrid makes its own Id, not use our Id.

And , many more stories trying this.

My attempts of various kinds do not select the row.  And, such selection would need to scroll to newly added row if necessary.

Would appreciate a reply very much, documentations have given help, but not quite able to do this yet.

We use addfunc and  try afterSubmit in it, but setSelection will not work like this.

So, I try storing 'newId' in javascript variable, reloadAfterSubmit: false, then try loadComplete to setSelection using 'newId'.  But, new row is not selected.  (And, if not on screen, no scrolling to it is done either). 

Driving us nuts  right now!  Please help, sounds easy to do we are missing something.
